BIOGRAPHY

She is an entrepreneur, visionary and writer. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 3 and raised in Cleveland, Ohio from the age of nine. Amanda is the eighth of nine children.

In 1987 Amanda moved to Atlanta, GA. Seven year later she met and married the man of her dreams, J. Emil Grihm. Today, J. Emil and Amanda live a fairy tale life in Stone Mountain, GA.

Amanda has worked in corporate America as a secretary, a word processing supervisor, an efficiency expert, an international trade marketing representative, a telecommunications marketing representative, a technical writer, a trainer and a workflow specialist and training consultant, a nonprofit executive and a telecommunications manager. Amanda has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in both Communications and Marketing, a Master of Business Administration degree in Human Resource Management and she is currently in pursuit of her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Technology.

Amanda left corporate America in 2001 to pursue her dream of becoming a writer and wrote her debut novel, The Wolf. In August 2003 she opened her publishing company, JAG Publishing, LLC. Amanda prefers to write about stranger-than-fiction events and stories. She communicates at several different levels - verbally, visually, physically and psychologically. She is a nurturing spirit and an extraordinary communicator. She writes from her heart and her mind’s eye about things that hold an interest for her - love, friendship and spirituality. She sees everything that she writes in her mind before her pen touches the paper. This ability to see the unseen allows her to write more vividly and visually and to share experiences in a more meaningful way with readers.

Amanda enjoys writing on that almost indistinguishable line between truth and fiction, and fantasy and reality. She has always enjoyed the arts, and specifically, the art of storytelling. Readers provide the canvass upon which the picture is portrayed and their personal perceptions of life provide and color, platform and motivating forces through which the characters speak. According to Amanda, “They are right there with you, mouthing your words, living your experience and adding the twists and turns that make your story their personal journey.”

Amanda’s main focus has been on the coming-of-age stories about African American girls becoming strong, independent, women. She has written a few stories about males and a few comedies. Amanda and many members of her family have had psychic experiences. Consequently, many of her stories delve into the supernatural. Amanda is a Christian who believes that God has availed Himself to her and freed her from the bonds of man’s interpretation of His word. Consequently, some of her stories are about her personal power and the power of God in her life.
